Kris Birney  RODP, MSc

Director

Kris founded the company in 2022 and is our Company director.

Kris is a registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) registered with the Health & Care Professional Council (HCPC).

Kris has over 15 years of NHS experience and has been involved in major projects and developments to a wide population.

Kris is currently a Lecture in Health science and Surgical Care at Canterbury Christ Church University and a published academic is several journals

Kris holds a MSc in Health and Wellbeing with a focus on Perioperative Safety and research.

Kris aims to undertake his Phd in the near future exploring patient safety mechanism in the operating theatre and future technology

For more than 15 years, I've been working within the NHS on a range of projects, gathering experience in diverse areas. I look forward to hearing about your needs and the ability to work and grow together. I have a specialist interest in patient safety and the prevention of harm.

  • Lecture of Health Science and Surgical Care - Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Led on the upskilling of Theatre staff education and training programs to support Intensive care throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Creation of Perioperative e-learning- electrosurgery and perioperative specimen collection
  • Past Chair of the Kent and Medway ICB ODP working Group
  • Past Member of the Health Education England Southeast ODP Working Group
  • Past Member of the Kent and Medway ICB AHP Faculty Representing ODP
  • Past clinical lead for prevention of surgical never events (NHS)
  • Primary author of multiple trust wide polices
  • clinical lead on the implementation of NatSSIPs/Locssips’s Trust Working group
  • never event and serious incident investigator
  • lead developer of the assistant theatre practitioner apprenticeship
  • Clinical member of the Kent, surrey and Sussex consortium for the development of the ODP apprenticeship
  • Designed and implemented alongside the emergency planning department a multi-agency live fire incident and evacuation exercise
  • Whilst employed by a NHS Trust worked as part of the core team to reconfigure and commission the Trauma operating services from two old sites to a new purpose built Hospital
  • Have acted in an advisory role for the offsite decontamination service.
  • Have acted as faculty and have arranged several trauma courses to be run on site for regional trauma training
  • Involved in the creation and running of an Orthopaedic Trauma Residents Program
  • Have developed and taught on seminars regarding perioperative practice and the Theatre environment to other Health Professional Students
  • Whilst employed by a NHS Trust represented as a Clinical Specialist for the DoH London Procurement Project, evaluating and sourcing surgical gowns
